Brokerage software that works with Google Sheets
Keep the commission sheet your office already trusts. Deskwork reads it, can write back to it after a trial on a copy, and never deletes a row.
The screens on this page are the real product, running on an invented office.
Many independent brokerages run on a Google Sheet: a tab for each agent, a row for each deal, columns for the address, the price, the closing date and the commission. Deskwork is built to work beside it, on Google Workspace: people sign in with Google, documents go to your brokerage's Drive, and the commission sheet can stay.
Two ways in: import, or sync
Tracker reads your commission workbook as an .xlsx, dropped in or chosen from Drive. It compares those rows with the desk and can turn past closings into files once the broker-owner says so. Choosing a workbook from Drive hands Deskwork that one file for the read; it does not keep the workbook in sync. Sync is for an office that wants to keep using its live Google Sheet alongside Deskwork.
Map your tabs and columns
On Sync, the broker-owner or office manager chooses the sheet, which tabs to include, which person each tab belongs to and which field each column holds. Saving that mapping does not create files or change the sheet. Saving keeps the sheet's identity and the mapping, not its rows, and agents are not shown it. If the sheet's layout changes later, syncing pauses until the mapping is reviewed.
A trial on a copy first
Start trial copies your sheet into a Sheet trial copies folder in the Drive of the Google account connected for sync, and reads that copy. Your working sheet is not changed, but the trial is not a sandbox: edits in the copy update your office's real files, and a new filled-in row there can start a real file. Start writing then tries Deskwork's writes on the copy. Compare with your sheet shows what would change on the working sheet, and applies nothing. Only when the copy looks right does the broker-owner or office manager switch to the real sheet, with one confirmed press.
What sync reads and writes
Every five minutes, and when you press Sync now, Deskwork reads the tabs you included. A new filled-in row starts a file with its address, agent, price and dates; an edited row updates its file. Rows already on the sheet when you started are not filed; bring closed files in through Tracker instead. In the other direction, a handed-in file can add a row, and dates, prices, closing figures, paid dates and status can go back to the columns you named. Writing adds a Deskwork id column at the right edge of each tab it links rows on, and a Deskwork log tab that records every change. Before the first write to your real sheet, Drive saves a full copy of it in a Sheet backups folder.
- Deskwork never deletes a row, clears a cell or writes into a formula.
- A blank cell on the sheet never clears anything in Deskwork.
- If the same detail changed in both places, neither is applied. Both values wait on Sync until the office chooses one, and the choice is logged.
- Commission is entered on Closing, not taken from the sheet, and a paid file keeps Deskwork's figures.
Google Workspace, end to end
Agents sign in with your Workspace accounts, or with a personal Gmail address once the broker adds that exact address to the roster. Each file's documents go to its own folder in your Drive. Sync uses the Google account of the person who connects it on Sync, separate from the office's Drive connection, and the broker-owner or office manager can turn writing off at any time.
Questions brokers ask
Will Deskwork change our working sheet without asking?
No. Sync starts on a trial copy. Your working sheet is not changed until the broker-owner or office manager switches to it and confirms, and either of them can turn writing off. Edits made in the trial copy do reach your office's files, so work there on real files only.
What if someone changes the sheet's columns?
A changed sheet layout pauses syncing until the broker-owner or office manager reviews the mapping on Sync.
Do we have to keep using the sheet?
No. Import the workbook on Tracker and work in Deskwork from then on. If you connected the sheet, forgetting the mapping stops syncing.
